INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS, STUDENTS, PARENTS
We aim to reward youth students who are doing exemplary work…just because. Performing in the recital and receiving a certificate of participation are the only rewards.
WHO SELECTS THE PARTICIPATING STUDENTS?
Students are selected solely by their primary teacher. There is no application, no audition, and no fee.
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR SELECTION?
We invite students who have demonstrated exemplary preparation and progress throughout the current school year. In addition, we limit invitations to those students who have prepared a substantial piece, typically from the traditional repertoire, at an intermediate level (or higher), to a very high level of polish and comfort…at the moment that invitations to the recital are made. Because we are looking for pieces above an elementary level, we are typically choosing students with 2+ years prior experience, ages 9 and up. Because we intend to reward students who are already working seriously, we make invitations and announce the program only a few weeks ahead of the event.
It is our hope that those students honored with selection will choose to attend because they value the reward: participation in a very special, and relatively short, recital. If this reward is not motivating to you, you may decline to participate. (Please: advance notice of opt-outs/cancellations.)
WHO CAN COME?
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. All students, parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, and community are all welcome.
Don’t worry! We aim to celebrate the achievement of those students whose effort has resulted in success at challenging traditional repertoire at a certain point in time. Those not selected outnumber those who are. Everyone is encouraged to look forward to this event for possible participation in future years—and to discuss with your teacher how this event may, or may not, fit in with your own learning, progress, and personal goals.
THE NEXT HONORS RECITAL WILL BE…
In 2016-17, our one and only Honors Recital will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 3:30 at the Woman’s Club of Arlington. Guests are most warmly welcome!
