CURRENT OPENINGS & PLANS FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR We accept new students year-round, subject to availability. We are now in a period of transition as our old school-year ends June 19 and we have begun planning for our new school year, which starts August 27. The priority registration deadline for returning students is June 1, and we process registrations from new students/families starting June 2. We're open all summer on a flexible sign-up schedule.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BEGIN LESSONS... Once our new school-year schedule is set in mid-June, we will post remaining openings to this space. But if you're interested in lessons in our Studio, don't wait for that to happen! The best way to find out about openings is to just get in touch, now! Regardless of what today's openings are...we always want to hear from interested students/parents in the community. Sometimes, we have flexibility which goes beyond what we can post here. Contact us! We'd love to hear from you.
REMOTE/IN-PERSON In nearly all cases, we are able to teach in-person in our beautiful studio. A few students may choose remote lessons or a mix of remote and in-person instruction.
AGES/LEVELS All our openings are available for all ages and levels.
IN-PERSON LESSONS While the Studio remains open by appointment only, we are now available to teach in-person lessons for all students. If you want to come in-person, yes you can! If you are currently attending remotely but prefer to come in-person, just ask your teacher. 48+ hours notice, please. If you are a new or prospective student, just contact us to make an appointment. We can meet you in-person at the Studio for your FREE interview and/or for your lessons.
REMOTE LESSONS While the Studio is back open for in-person lessons and most students are choosing to attend in-person, we are able to switch your lesson to remote-status whenever it is necessary (48 hours notice, please). We also are continuing to teach remotely for those students who prefer or require that option.
MASKS We have transitioned to a more-flexible mask policy. As of this update [3/7/21] masks continue to be required in the waiting room and in group events, but masks are now optional in the individual lesson. Individual teachers retain the right to request that any student wear a mask in the individual lesson. And of course, your teacher will wear a mask in the individual lesson if this is your preference.
GUESTS/WAITING ROOM We have a large and comfortable waiting room and practice nook and it's open and available for your comfort! You may also choose to bring a reasonable number of guests (i.e. a friend or your siblings) with you. Note that the waiting room is open for you only around your appointment time.
WORKSHOP CLASSES In-person Workshop classes have resumed. We continue to offer a limited number of remote workshops as well.
BRIGHT STARTS CLASSES We have resumed the Bright Starts group beginner program with one Level 1 class on Saturdays. We only programmed one class this year, both to limit capacity and because we were unsure of demand. This class is now full. We look forward to welcoming more new students into the program in September 2022!
Due to the coronavirus situation, we weren't comfortable hosting our usual Summer Recital indoors...but we also were tired of videos and Zoom! On Saturday, June 12, we held this annual event outdoors in the park behind the Studio building! Over the course of the day, we were joined by 86 student performers! Participating students represented all ages and levels, including adults. While we hope to go back to a traditional indoor recital someday, we were overflowing with joy to see so many students sharing their music live and in-person.
We will be closed for the Memorial Day Weekend break from Friday May 28 through and including Monday May 31. We re-open on our usual school-year schedule on Tuesday June 1. The old school-year schedule continues through and including Sunday June 20.
In just one day (Sunday, December 13) we enjoyed exactly 99 student performances, separated into nine different short-short groups! No cupcakes this year (a pity!) but still a wonderful day full of music-making and community. The coronavirus situation prevented us from gathering together, in person. But we enjoyed the opportunity to connect with so many students and families in two different online platforms: Zoom, and YouTube Live.
We knew that Summer 2020 would be like none other so we set out to support our interested students with innovative group enrichment classes with ultra-low tuition. Our only goal was to have fun and stay engaged while learning something new! Students joined us for the following special programs:
♪ 1/2 Day Remote Piano Camp with Andrew Horowitz
♪ Remote Group Theory classes with Olga Robets
♪ Summer Performance Workshops with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou
♪ Digital Music Composition with our old friend Tyler St. Clare
We were not able to host our usual Summer Recital due to the coronavirus situation but we made alternate plans to celebrate and demonstrate the achievement of our students! Bright Starts (group beginners) participated in a live online recital using Zoom on June 6. We were joined by nearly 40 students and parents and families members from all over the world. Our individual-lesson students participated in a YouTube virtual recital and we received nearly 90 different video submissions from our students. We've prepared a YouTube playlist with a selection of 20 videos representing a variety of ages and levels as well as our teacher-introduction video. If you're interested in what we do, check it out!
What event has seven pounds of M&M's, 144 cupcakes, 300+ humans walking through our door...plus 93 students performing 120+ pieces from memory in nine different short-short performance groups? Our 2019 Open House and Winter Mini-Recital, of course! Held in our little Studio home in Falls Church on December 8, 2019.
We treasure the opportunity to see so many people and hear so many performances, all in one day. Thank you to those who who performed and those who joined us and especially to our wonderful teachers for their support in preparing all our students for the event. If you weren't able to join us this year, mark your calendar for December 13, 2020! All are welcome.
We celebrated the end of our School Year with five recitals on June 8 & 9 at The Falls Church Episcopal. Our youngest performer was five years old and our oldest was eighteen. 122 students presented 169 different pieces. And no recital lasted more than 70 minutes! How gratifying it is for us to see our youngest beginners presenting themselves with confidence and our most advanced teens presenting a program full of demanding masterworks…all in the same weekend! To all our students and parents: we are grateful for your participation but also…for your support to us and to music. We thank you for making music—and our little studio—a part of your journey! To anyone else who might be reading this: you should join us next year! Our recitals are free and open to the public with no fees and no ticketing for students or guests.
